One of the benefits of alternative medicine is that it can make conventional medications and procedures safer and more effective.
A great example of this is a new report on combining ozone therapy with the conventional treatment for rheumatoid arthritis.
The researchers looked at 60 men and women with rheumatoid arthritis and divided them into two groups. They treated the first group with the drug methotrexate, along with folic acid and ibuprofen. They treated the second group with the same therapy, but in addition, they treated the participants with ozone therapy. Specifically, they received rectal ozone treatments. These treatments are similar to using a rectal suppository medication. They are safe, easy to do, and incredibly inexpensive. The experiment went on for three weeks. During that time, the researchers studied the effects of the therapies on several markers of disease activity as well as symptoms. Here’s what they found.
The group getting the ozone showed a greater decrease in disease activity. The ozone group also showed antioxidant system activation and decreased oxidative damage, while the strictly conventional group did not show any improvement in these measurements. And what about clinical results? The combination of ozone and conventional treatment resulted in much better clinical improvement than just the conventional treatment alone. And, of course, they didn’t note any side effects from the ozone therapy.
According to the authors of the study, “These results suggest that ozone can increase the efficacy of methotrexate therapy probably because both share common therapeutic targets. Medical ozone treatment is capable of being a complementary therapy in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.”
And rheumatoid arthritis is just the tip of the iceberg. Ozone therapy improves the results of every conventional therapy out there.
