As you may already know, diabetes can cause blindness. The condition is called diabetic retinopathy.
All diabetics should have their eyes examined yearly to ensure they are not getting diabetic retinopathy.
But, as important as it is to discover the problem early, it’s much better to prevent it altogether. And there’s an herb that can help you do just that.
The herb is radix astragali, which you probably know as astragalus.
In an article entitled “Systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 randomized clinical trials of radix astragali and its prescriptions for diabetic retinopathy,” the authors analyzed 16 placebo-controlled experiments that looked at whether or not astragalus was helpful in diabetic retinopathy. The studies involved 977 men and women. Here’s what they found.
The sum total of the 16 studies was that in these men and women, astragalus improved their visual acuity by 29%. When it came to directly examining the retina, they saw a 27% improvement. According to the authors, “Radix astragali and its prescriptions were superior to other treatments for diabetic retinopathy in terms of improving visual acuity and fundus [retina] manifestations.” In addition, they found that the herb reduced fasting blood sugar levels and triglycerides.
Astragalus is one of the most effective herbs out there. It has a very positive effect on the immune system. You can order it online. If you’re diabetic, it should be a regular part of your program to prevent disease progression and stay healthy.
Yours for better health,
Frank Shallenberger, MD
